Project Overview:

The Next-Gen Empowerment in Duhok Governorate initiative is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and supported by UNICEF. It is implemented by Rwanga Foundation in collaboration with the General Directorate of Youth, targetingyouth between the ages of 10 and 24 in Duhok, Shekhan, and Sumel. The project aims to empower young people through;

  • Establishingthree innovation and learning labs
  • Deliveringlife skills trainingto 600 youth
  • Providinggrants for small-scale youth-led projects
  • Offering internship and on-the-job trainingopportunities
  • Promotingyouth advocacy and civic engagement

Objective:

To design and deliverhighly interactive, context-relevant, and youth-friendly trainingsessions on advocacy skills and civic engagement, with a specific focus on:

  • Strengthening participants’ understanding of socialcohesion, environmental sustainability, and green skills.
  • Building participants’ ability to use digital tools effectively for civic participation and advocacy campaigns.
  • Enabling youth to initiateand lead their own community-focused projects and advocacy actions.

Key Responsibilities:

The trainerswill be expectedto:

  • Preparation & Curriculum Development
  • Design and finalize a tailored trainingcurriculum, session plans,and supporting materials that address the three focus areas.
  • Align training content with the local context, culturalsensitivities, and the needs of diverse age groups.
  • Incorporate interactive learning methods includingcase studies, role-plays, simulations, group discussions, and field-based examples.
  • Conduct a pre-training needs assessment to ensure contentrelevance.

Training Delivery

  • Facilitateengaging, participatory sessionsin Duhok, Sumel,and Shekhan.
  • Use a blend of in-person facilitation, group work, and hands-on exercisesto ensure active learning.
  • Introduce practicaltools for planningand implementing advocacyinitiatives, including online platforms and social media strategies.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Develop and administer pre- and post-training assessment tools to measure knowledge gain and skills development.
  • Collect participant feedbackto inform continuous improvement.
  • Challenges, lessonslearned, and recommendations for future capacity-building activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’sdegree in socialsciences, political science,law, education or a relatedfield.
  • Proven track record in delivering training on advocacy, civic engagement, youth leadership, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of social cohesion,environmental sustainability, and the application of green skills.
  • Experience in integrating digitaltools and onlineplatforms into advocacyand civic engagement work.
  • Excellent facilitation and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse youth groups.
  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic (spokenand written) is mandatory; workingknowledge of English is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs, UN agencies,or youth-focused programsin Iraq is preferred.
