Position Title: Life Skill Trainer

Project Title:Next-Gen Empowerment in Duhok Governorate

Location: Duhok Governorate (Duhok center, Sumel and Shekhan). 

 

Project Overview:

The Next-Gen Empowerment in Duhok Governorate initiative is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and supported by UNICEF. It is implemented by the Rwanga Foundation in collaboration with the General Directorate of Youth. The project targets youth aged 10 to 24 in Duhok, Shekhan, and Sumel, and aims to empower them through:

  • Establishing three youth empowerment labs
  • Delivering life skills training to 600 youth
  • Providing grants for small-scale, youth-led projects
  • Offering internship and on-the-job training opportunities
  • Promoting youth advocacy and civic participation

Objectives:

The life skills trainer will be responsible for designing and delivering training materials under the direction of the project manager for a 6-day program aimed at equipping youth with practical skills for personal and professional development. The trainer will employ interactive and participatory techniques to promote effective learning and encourage active participation.

Scope of work: 

  • Develop and implement interactive and culturally appropriate life skill training sessions covering:
  • Self-awareness and self-confidence
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and decision-making
  • Problem-solving and Civic engagement
  • Teamwork and leadership
  • Emotional intelligence and stress management
  • Create a dynamic and participatory training environment that encourages active engagement, dialogue, and sharing among participants.
  • Offer one-on-one coaching and guidance for participants who may need additional support in understanding or applying life skills in real-life scenarios.
  • Assess participants’ learning needs and adjust training strategies accordingly.
  • Conduct pre- and post-assessments to measure skill development and knowledge retention.
  • Organize group exercises, energizers, and experiential learning activities to reinforce the training content and enhance peer-to-peer interaction.
  • Maintain attendance records and training documentation. Submit progress updates and a final evaluation report to the project coordinator.

Desired Profile:

Education & Certifications:

  • University degree in Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, Human Development, or a related field
  • Certification in life skills facilitation, youth work, counseling, or non-formal education is a plus

Experience:

  • At least 3–4 years of experience in life skills or soft skills training delivery, preferably with youth
  • Demonstrated expertise in participatory training approaches
  • Experience in working on youth-focused or social cohesion projects is desirable

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of life skills frameworks, youth development, and civic engagement
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to build trust and engage with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Culturally sensitive, empathetic, and flexible
  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic; English proficiency is an asset
  • Willingness to travel to Duhok, Sumel, and Shekhan for training sessions

 

Duration:

The life skill training will be conducted for 8 groups per location (Duhok, Sumel, Shekhan). Each group will attend a 6-day training course, with sessions lasting 3 to 4 hours per day.
